At least four convictions for insurance fraud are based on an incorrect amount from Nav and the defendants may have been punished too harshly.
Dagens Næringsliv wrote earlier this week that an error in the calculation used by Nav has had serious consequences for an estimated 1,300 cases for repayment of Nav support since 2002.
Initially Nav examined cases back to 2014 to the present day, as amongst these 51 cases were persons who are still imprisoned because of this error.
The four most serious errors during this period are due to miscalculations of between 11,000 and 22,000 Norwegian kroner, according to the newspaper.
In one of the cases, a person was convicted of having defrauded 158.000 kroner, but this sum is actually 22.000 kroner too high.
Partner Helge Hjort from the law firm of “Hestenes og Dramer”, pointed out the case where the correct amount is 114,000 kroner and not 128,000 which a person was convicted for.
– The error could be a deciding factor when it comes to the type of imprisonment or probation, says Hjort.
