The new signalling system for the railway in Norway is likely to cost 23.4 billion kroner, several billion kroner more than what was previously projected.

The figure appears in a new proposition to the Storting, newspaper VG reports. The changeover to the joint European Train management system ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management) is scheduled to be finished in 2030.

According to the Ministry, there are several reasons why they think when the project will be significantly more expensive than the original cost estimate of 15-20 billion. The first estimate was made a long time before the external quality safeguarding started and before much was known about things like other additions that would be needed.
