Solberg believes Labour party wrong about unemployment figures

Prime Minister Erna Solberg believes the Labour are wrong when they say that current unemployment is at its highest in 20 years.

– The rise in unemployment appears to have slowed. And we are well below the levels of the 1990s. That being said this means when the Labour party alleges that unemployment is at its highest in a quarter century, it isn’t accurate, said Solberg.

The Conservative leader had equipped herself with graphs and statistics when she met reporters at a seminar on “economic policies in troubled times” in Arendal Thursday morning. The numbers show that the Labour party booms when they talk about unemployment figures, she says.

– From 1990 to 1994 the unemployment rate was above 5 percent, and at its peak unemployment was 6.6 percent in the third quarter of 1993. This is 2 percentage points higher than the current figure. And compared with the registered unemployment rate it is an even greater difference, said Solberg.

The Prime Minister also believes that it is wrong to compare unemployment figures in the 1990s with today’s reality:

– We have been 1 million more Norwegians, and 650,000 more employees in Norway today. The unemployment crisis we had in the 1990s, which lasted a long time, was a much greater challenge in the Norwegian economy overall than what we are experiencing now.

She said moreover that Labor rewrites history when it comes to who is doing the most to combat unemployment:

– There is giid reason to recall that Labour, in the 1990s, took four years to bring unemployment down, which they have later called a success.

However because it has not reach the peak it does not means that is good. It is high, it is bad and needs attention.

True, but for the leader of labour to use this in an onvious attempt to gain popularity can hardly be called productive or adult behavior.
Solberg has shown her worth as a prime minister so i am fairly certain she is aware and acting accordingly to the issue.
