Vedum wish to curb Chinese ownership in Norway

Party leader in the Centre Party (Sp), Trygve Slagsvold Vedum,  is concerned about the Chinese influx into Norway. He is asking for a better safeguarding of Norwegian ownership.

When Parliament is reconvened this autumn, the Centre Party will ask for a parliamentary paper to be established to ensure national ownership in strategically important businesses, infrastructure and technology. This according to the Sp affiliated newspaper Nationen.

Centre Party leader Trygve Slagsvold Vedum is particularly concerned about the growing Chinese interest in Norway.

– This is not only about China, but China is such a major player in the world’s business life. There is no reason to be näive regarding China. Norway has quite recently experienced how brutal China can be, Vedum tells the newspaper.

Vedum points to an investigation the Parliament’s investigative section has made on behest of the Centre Party. That reveals that legislative changes in China impose Chinese companies to issue business related information to the Chinese authorities.

– Chinese companies are very deeply connected to the interests of the Chinese Government, Vedum concludes.

Minister of Industry, Torbjørn Røe Isaksen Conservatives) disagrees with Vedum. Isaksen ‘is concerned about the growing protectionism in the world. He will therefore not shut Chinese businesses out of Norway.
