Further 600 FTE’s can disappear from Statoil. Now it’s offshore business to be more efficient.

Corporate management oriented employees of its decision relating to the program “operational staffing 2016-2019” on Monday. It is not decided yet that some positions will be cut, reports TV2 news.

– What is the conclusion, is that within the next three years see an efficiency potential of more than 600 man, says media relations for Statoil’s operations and exploration activities on the Norwegian shelf, Morten Eek.

A dramatic and unexpected comprehensive decision, given that staffing in the offshore sector is already cut to the bone, believes GEC union SAFE, Bjørn Asle Teige.

– We fear both that this will lead to increase risk level and the operating efficiency goes down. It will lead to a fall in revenue for the group in the billions, he says.

Statoil’s management hopes to consider a lot of downsizing through so-called natural wastage, partly because many are expected to go into retirement in the next few years.

– In addition, phasing-out the fields, while not to mention the new fields coming on stream, form the basis of the positions can be moved, said Eek.
