The three airlines Widerøe, Danish Air Transport and FlyViking have signed up in the competition to get operate regional scheduled air services in northern Norway.
– We think it is positive that more airlines are showing interest. Decision on allocation will happen in the autumn, said Mr Tom Cato Karlsen in the Ministry of Transport.

Airlines in all EEA countries are invited to submit a tender for the operation of a total of 13 route areas in northern Norway for the period 1 April 2017 to 31 March 2022.

Behind FlyViking stands the former Widerøe pilot Ola Giæver. He says to NRK news that the company has offered short-distance routes in Finnmark and Lofoten. Giæver has had close contact with the owner of Danish Air Transport.

– If the Danish Air and FlyViking get a tender, we will cooperate on the technical side, says the entrepreneur.

Widerøe’s communications director Nigel Brandvold says the company is confident that they have submitted a competitive offer.

– We have had two or three competitors in previous tenders, but we won. Widerøe has offices in Northern Norway, and the region is an important market area for us. It constitutes 40 percent of our business, she says to NRK.
