Norway Locomotive Man’s Federation (NLF) is stepping up the train driver strike from Wednesday. Then, five new train drivers in CargoNet will go on strike.
Friday around 150 trains were canceled due the strike which started Thursday. The strike escalates from Wednesday October 5th, informs NLF.
Thursday morning 71 train drivers went, most of them in Oslo, Lillestrøm and Ski on strike after no consensus was reached in the mediation of this year’s settlement.
The arbitration stranded when NSB did not want to set an education level for locomotive drivers in the tariff agreement.
– It takes two years to provide an adequate train driver education. Driving freight trains require more than a four-month crash course. It is like driving a semitrailer with the moped certificate, says union leader Rolf Ringdal in NLF.
Because it concerns a lawful industrial dispute, NSB has not gone out with alternative transportation such as buses, nor replaced striking locomotive engineers with hired labor or managers with train driver competence.
