The Norwegian Truck Drivers and Owners Federation (Norsk Lastebileier-Forbund – NLF) believes it will help them if children begin to wave to truck drivers to increase road safety.

‘Although we sit high and have a good view, it is difficult to catch what is happening nearest to the truck. It can be a little scary’, said Tommy Rustad of NLF in a statement.

The NLF proposes introducing a system whereby children wave to drivers to ensure that they have been seen before they cross the road.

‘And we’ll wave back to show that we’ve seen you’, said Rustad.

The measure is part of a national road safety project called ‘Venner på Veien’ (Friends on the Street).

During 2016, truck owners and drivers visited 30 schools to teach children in years one to three, the vital lessons of road safety.
