By 2017, Ulriksbanen in Bergen had over 200,000 travellers for the first time. Now the owner hopes that a new cable car line will triple capacity.
In total, 216,000 people travelled with the popular cable car up Ulriken Mountain last year, wrote Bergens Tidende newspaper. It generated a turnover of just over NOK 17 million for Ulriken Taubaneselskap AS.
The preliminary figures for 2018 also indicate another year of record profits (the sixth in a row) according to owner,Christian Foss. He said the expanded activity offer in the mountains, including a new outdoor training facility and a ‘zipline’ as the main reasons for the growth.
Foss’ next project will be to build a new gondola track,which will prevent Ulriksbanen from closing due to wind.
“With the new gondolas, we will hardly have any days when we are closed during the summer season,” said Foss,hoping that building will start in the autumn of 2019.
