Several young workers have reported to the LO’s Summer Patrol on sexual harassment at the workplace.

“We hear about sexual comments from the bosses of young employees, camera surveillance used in changing rooms, body and appearance comments, as well as unwanted sexual approaches,” said youth counsellor, Bjarne Lagesen of LO to VG newspaper.

Every year, the LO’s ‘summer patrol’ visits young workers doing summer jobs, and the goal is to raise awareness and report violations of the Working Environment Act. In several counties, however, this year there were more inquiries than in previous years about sexual harassment.

“If this is because there is more awareness about sexual harassment due to the ‘Metoo’ campaign, or because it’s a real increase, it’s hard for us to say. It may be easier to report now, at the same time,we know that there are many dark numbers,’’ said Lagesen.

He now wishes that all cases of sexual harassment will be highlighted and become a part of the summer patrol’s reporting.
