Several municipal nursing homes in Trondheim have announced permanent positions, both full and part time, without receiving a single application. It worries the Nurses Union (Sykepleierforbundet).
In one case, a 100% permanent position advertised twice, with the same result: no applicants, reported Adresseavisen. Night time jobs are particularly difficult to fill.
Shop steward, Ingrid Berg Selfjord, of the Norsk Sykepleierforbund (Norwegian Nurses Association) in Trondheim, said the lack of an academic milieu is a problem, and that it’s easy to feel lonely at work without there being such an environment.
‘Coordination reform places heavy demands on nurses, and a feeling of loneliness at work in the nursing profession is stronger than it was before. Tasks are more sophisticated, and there is a definite need for more nurses. There are plenty of reasons reinforcing people’s reluctance’, she said.
‘In Trondheim, there are choices between hospital work and civic work, and often, one chooses the one with the best academic environment’, said Selfjord.
