- Come rain, come shine, said Queen Sonja, and it was a little of both when Crown Princess Mette-Marit celebrated the 40th birthday of worship in the open.
- Dear Mette-Marit, happy birthday. This celebration says a lot about you. You carry out your projects with generosity, empathy and knowledge, and you give of yourself, 'said the Queen Sonja when she and King Harald gave a speech to honor.
Crown Princess's 40th birthday was marked Sunday with an open air church service for invited guests in the Queen's Park behind the Royal Palace in Oslo, the day before the actual birthday.
In attendance were family and friends of the Crown Princess were attendance , as well as colleagues and acquaintances from her work with mental health, youth leadership and HIV and AIDS issues.
- We are a diverse and complex assembly, said the King.
It was Mette-Marit herself who wanted an open air church service.
She has since 2001 invited family and close friends to worship in the Palace Chapel on the Sunday closest to her birthday.
Just before the service rained sideways in the capital, and many of the guests helped themselves with rain pochoes, which were available at the entrance.
When former Bishop Gunnar Stålsett began his sermon, however, the weater became better , and the afternoon the sun was shining on the Crown Princess and her guests.
- Tomorrow is your real birthday, and when the sun is shining from a cloudless sky, predicted Queen Sonja.
Bowls and juice
The Jubilant even looked to be in high spirits. In white coat and rubber boots, carrying one of the puppies to the Crown family dog Milly Kakao, she would greet his guests.
After the service, invited the king and queen of coffee and cakes, buns and lemonade in the green.
Both the invited guests and spectators who had gathered outside the police cordons could participate afterwards.
