Tuesday was the stage set for one of the fixed progam for the king before Christmas: the church parade with the Kings Guard in Oslo Cathedral.
The celebration of holiday season is both religious and military. The 700 Guards remembered the fallen with silence, and cried out "God save the King and Fatherland" which reverberated in the cathedral.
- We soldiers, have an especially heavy seriousness attached to our job at worst. Then it may be more important to bring with you a perspective on life, says farm major and pastor Kenneth Henriksen to NRK.
Both King Harald and Crown Prince Haakon attended church parade. Henriksen recall that the gathering also helps to highlight the bond between the king's men and their commander.
- We are here today, the primary job is to look after him daily. The fact that he has a care and concern for his department and sharing this moment with us, as he has done for years, we are extremely pleased. It means a lot, says the major.
