International Holocaust Remembrance Day was marked on Monday at the Akershus quay where King Harald and Minister Thorbjorn Røe Isaksen ( H ) were present .
The celebration is part of the main events related to the Constitution Bicentennial in 2014 and took place at the memorial to deportees Norwegian Jews outside the walls of the Akershus Fortress.
During the Holocaust , millions of Jews , Romanies , gays , disabled people and political prisoners were killed because of a notion that there are human races who believes they are . In all it took the Nazis during World War II when they killed 25 million civilians.
Røe Isaksen reminded in his speech about the Jews who were deported from Norway .
- We have a responsibility that we never reduce the history of the Holocaust to only numbers. We must convey the history of mankind and easy fortunes of future generations. We must make sure that they understand why we can never let that happen again , he said.
The Norwegian government gave the memorial on the quayside in October 2000. The chairs are there in memory of the Jews who were arrested and deported in autumn 1942 and spring 1943. 772 Jews were deported from the quayside and Filipstad quay in Oslo that year . Of them survived only 34 of a total of 230 families who were wiped out , according to the head of the Jewish community , Ervin Kohn .
