Fewer children are adopted from abroad to Norway. In the 2002, the peak year, 785 foreign options were implemented, while in 2017 only 127 were completed.

A total of 378 adoptions were carried out here last year. That is 29 more than the year before, and the increase was due to the fact that several step-children were adopted, Statistics Norway (SSB) reported.

In total, 181 step-children were adopted in 2017.

In the 1990s and up to 2005, the number of annual foreign options was between 500 and 700. The last five years have been below 150 per year. 2006 was the first year with lower adoption figures than in 1970.
