1682 children ran away from child welfare institutions last year

Last year,  1682 children ran away from child protection institutions in Norway. Almost half of them ran away from institutions in Hordaland, Rogaland and Sogn og Fjordane.
While 738 children ran away from institutions in the Region West, only 183 children ran away in Eastern Region, newspaper Bergens Tidende.
Deputy Director Hilde Baardsen in Bufetat region west says she does not know why the difference is so large.
– It may be about the regions have  a different mix of measures, and that some regions have  more of the spaces at the institutions taken by youth with behavioral problems, she says.
