Over 4,000 drivers have received parking fines after parking lot outside Oslo City Hall been converted into MC parking lot a little more than half a year ago. This provides 2,119,000 million NOK for Oslo municipality.

– This is a very high amount which shows that there are not enough parking signs stand there, said by Anja Bakken Riise, commissioner secretary for environment and transport from the Green Party to NRK.

4238 drivers from October last year till end of May this year have received fines for illegal parking based on the figures from the Environment Department. In Oslo it costs 500 kroner to park in incorrect locations on municipal sites which has increased the capital municipality earnings with a couple of million NOK. In addition most of the drivers paid the parking fees by using the automats.

– The main purpose of these parking places was for the drivers to get a place to park and not mainly to create some revenue for municipality, said Riise.

During the last city council it has been decided to initiate new parking lots and after 7-8 months took current commissioner initiative to find paint bucket and highlight seats properly. This was made on 31st of May and since then no one had a single fine.
