Transport Workers Union has little or no faith that the mediation Friday night will to lead to a consensus with NHO in the port settlement.
The mediation deadline expires at midnight. If the parties agree, all of the 22 ports Norwegian Transport Workers’ Union has collective agreements in, will be affected by strikes. It is initially about 210 members.
– The risk of strikes is very big. There is nothing to suggest that it should be easy to reach the goal with this settlement, says leader Lars Morten Johnsen from Norwegian Transport Workers’ Union.
The one-year lasting conflict over what the unionized believe to be internationally entrenched rights of port workers for loading and unloading work is the reason for the situation. The dock workers claim to have the support of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), but employers and businesses denies that those who work on the docks, have the preferential right.
The deadline for mediation expires at midnight on Saturday. Office of mediator himself, Nils Dalseide shall assist Transport Workers Federation and NHO Logistics and Transport come closer to a settlement through the evening and maybe the night.
