On the occasion of the TV campaigns on Sunday 2,200 residents have signed up for the so-called friend breakfasts totaling 84 reception centers across the country.

Vennefrokostene (Friends breakfast) is organized by Red Cross volunteers in collaboration with dairy giant TINE Saturday from 11:00 to 13:00.

– The response has been beyond expectation, and it’s incredibly gratifying that so many people wanted to be better acquainted with the refugees living in reception centers in this way.

Presumably there are many who get a new friend on Saturday, and maybe they can even go together to collect money on Sunday, said marketing and communications director Øistein Mjærum of Red Cross.

On the 84 centers that agreed who said yes to arrange Friends breakfast, live 4.500 refugees. The residents have the opportunity to prepare meals of their home country if they so desire.

Invitations were sent out via 26 million milk cartons from TINE in recent weeks.
This year fund raised will go to the Red Cross for people affected by war and conflict in nine countries: Syria, Lebanon, Sudan, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Somalia, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.

This also includes refugees who have come to Norway from these countries.

As loud patrons of this year’s telethon will Queen Sonja and Crown Princess Mette-Marit be present in NRK studio Sunday night.
