37 doctors lost their authorization last year

In all, 37 doctors had their authorizations revoked as a result of substance abuse, academic failure or other serious reasons during last year, according to figures from the Norwegian Board of Health.

The same list shows that 53 nurses and 32 nursing assistants also lost the necessary authorization to practice in the profession. 145 pepople employed as health staff in total had 160 authorizations revoked in 2015. The total number implies an increase of 23 compared with 2014 and 39 more than in 2013.

– The reasons why the authorization was revoked is in most cases  substance abuse and behavior incompatible with professional conduct. The behavior includes theft of drugs, writes  the HealthAuthority in a statement.

Five health employees were reported to the police on suspicion of a criminal offense.

19 health staff had their authoritization liimited. Of these, 14 were doctors. This means that a doctor can not work as an emergency physician or general practitioner, or must work under supervision.

In addition,  16 health employees voluntarily chose to give up their authorization, and seven doctors  voluntary  gave up the right to prescribe  vibrant or addictive drugs in group A and B.
