5 Antifa detained after counter Nazi demonstration

Five persons are arrested by the police after a brawl between Nazis and Anti-Fascists (Antifa) in Fredrikstad, Østfold on Saturday.

Four Swedish citizens are arrested on the border with Norway on Saturday in connection with the markings. Those four persons are linked to the Nazi group the Nordic Resistance Movement (DNM), which holds markings in both Fredrikstad and Moss on Saturday.

The marking by DNM in Fredrikstad is calm, the Norwegian Police declares. About 50 demonstrators associated with DNM and about 100 opponents from various Antifa groups are present.

Following the legal marking, a brawl between members of DNM after being attacked by Antifa’s started, and five of the counter-demonstrators were taken care of by the police.

Immigration Act

The four Swedes were arrested according to the Immigration Act § 106 in connection with expanded territorial control on the border with Sweden.

At least three of the four have previously been convicted and will be considered expelled from Norway for reasons of public order and safety. The police in Østfold announce that they will continue their presence at border crossings to Sweden through Saturday.

– The police have a good dialogue with DNM, and we are experiencing cooperation on the framework for the markings as being constructive, says the Chief of Staff in the East Police District, Police Inspector Jan Eivind Myklatun.

Freedom of expression

It was expected that several different Antifa groups and organisations would meet in Fredrikstad and Moss to express themselves against DNM.

– The police shall ensure that the markings are held so that freedom of expression and the freedom of expression are safeguarded within the framework of the Law. The safety of the public must be taken care of and criminal offences should be prevented and pursued as far as possible, Myklatun states.

In order to prevent criminal offences and ensure freedom of expression, the police have a large presence in Fredrikstad and Moss on Saturday.

Low threshold

– The police will have a low threshold regarding responding to criminal offences. If anyone applies violence or other unlawfulness, we need to react to it and implement the necessary measures to ensure public law and order, the Chief of Staff .expands.

DNM has applied for two markings in Østfold, which, after applications to the municipalities, are taking place at the Fish Market in Fredrikstad from 10 am to 12 pm and at Dronningens gate in Moss from 1 pm to 3 pm and has just started according to the police on Twitter.
