5,700 children and youths are in asylum centers

At the end of October there has been close to 5,700 children and youths in asylum centers in Norway.

Figures from the Directorate of Immigration (UDI) show that there were 1696 children aged 0 to 5 years, 974 children aged 6 to 10 years and 2,992 teenagers aged 11 to 17 years registered till end of last month.

Number of adults were 11,507 so in total there are 17,169 people in Norwegian asylum centers.

This is still a decrease in all groups compared to September when there were 18,640 asylum seekers in reception centers spread over 1827 (0-5 years), 1049 (6-10 years), 3207 (11-17 years) and 12 557 (adults).

Until October this year, the highest number of asylum seekers were coming from Syria (5641). Then follows Afghanistan (3559), Iraq (1656), Iran (1291), Eritrea (1114) and Ethiopia (1110). Applicants from other countries are less than thousand from each country.

Broken down by age are the largest group adults from Syria (4274).

The second largest group is young people from 11 years to 17 years of Afghanistan (1941) and same with the adult population from Afghanistan (1261), adults from Iraq (1211) and adults from Iran (1020). The other groups remain below one thousand individuals.
