An 80-year-old man has been deprived of the right to fish for all time by Fredrikstad District Court. He has also  been sentenced to 50 days in jail for illegal lobster fishing and violations of the Firearms Act.

In July last year an inspector from the Directorate of Fisheries caught the man red-handed with 23 lobsters. Four of them were with roe and nine of them below the legal minimum size, NRK reported.
In August the same year was the man once again was caught fishing illegally when he was caught using eel traps outside the legal fishing period, by the skerries of Fredrikstad.
In court the 80-year-old pleaded guilty to one count of illegal lobster fishing and possession of a shotgun without a firearm permit, but denied criminal responsibility for the use of eel traps and misleading marking of a fishing boat.
The court noted that the man is previously convicted of illegal fishing and therefore believed that he has shown a lack of respect for law. They think that it is unlikely that he will refrain from illegal fishing in the future and because of this has decided to deprive him of the right to engage in fishing. He also has to cover the legal costs of 20,000 kroner.
