The government introduces such a duty for all under 30 receiving social assistance from the New Year. 60 million NOK is set aside for the purpose in the state budget for next year.

– We are introducing such a duty because it will help more people to become self-sufficient with their own income. The experience of municipalities that have already introduced a requirement for action is extremely positive.

It means that many will stray from social security and into work, says Labour and Social Affairs Anniken Hauglie to news agency NTB.

Today it is up to municipalities to decide whether to set activity requirements. From 1st January next year it will be the same across the country.

– Those who eventually refuse to participate in work or activity, risk getting a reduction in social assistance, says Hauglie-.

The 60 million that the government set aside in the state budget, will help municipalities to implement the scheme.
