One in four employers has experienced negative consequences of employee alcohol abuse, according to a survey conducted by Norstat for the organization Av-og-til.

On the question: Have you ever experienced negative consequences of employee alcohol abuse during or after hours work related social events? 26 percent answered: Yes, 72 percent answered: No. A total of 600 business leaders from private sector were asked.

“We know that the risk of sexual harassment is increasing and that many employees do not feel welcome when there is high consumption of alcohol at workplace events,” says Secretary General Randi Hagen Eriksrud from Av-og-til to P4.

According to the organization, every fifth drinking event takes place in job-related contexts, and many go over their own and others’ boundaries as the blood alcohol content rises.

Eriksrud also believes there are many incidents that the employer is not aware and that the numbers are therefore much larger.
