Following the introduction of compulsory toll chips for heavy vehicles last year, 97 percent of the foreign carriers  now pay their invoices.

The government introduced a decree on obligatory toll chips for heavy vehicles with effect from January 2015. The reason was that almost two thirds of the foreign lorries driving through Norway didn’t pay toll money.
– We want the Norwegian carriers to be able to compete on fair terms against foreign carriers. Because of this, we have raised some of our demands to the industry, while we have increased our monitoring activities and responses considerably. An important prerequisite is the mandatory chip. If we are to have toll booths, we also have to  ensure that everyone in the transport industry pays its share of the tolls, anything else would be mean that our own carriers are not allowed to compete on fair terms against the foreign carrier,  Transport Minister Ketil Solvik-Olsen (FRP) says in a press release.
