The first finished cells came Wednesday to prison which were constructed in Eidsberg. Justice Minister Anders Anundsen is pleased with the new standard solutions.

Indre Østfold prison department Eidsberg is one of two prisons built using prebuilt solutions. Instead of building in plain view on a construction site, prison cells and other rooms are produced in a factory and then transported to the building site and assembled there.

Anundsen seen the new prison cells on Wednesday and concludes that the project is on track both in time and cost. The big advantage is shorter construction time.

– It normally takes eight years from decision to build the ribbon cutting, but this should be about eighteen months, says Anundsen to news agency NTB.

The standard solution meets the same technical requirements as traditional building methods and construction method, according Anundsen there is no downside. The solution can thus be adapted to other future prison developments, like the one which is under planning in Agder.

Indre Østfold prison department Eidsberg has so far had room for 17 persons. By established extension 96 new places will be available at the prison.

Building layout consists of three floors, including the ground floor with working operation, school, community and service centers and the top two floors contain cells.
