In July 242 new asylum seekers came to Norway, per fresh figures from the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI). Altogether this year, there have been around 2,000 asylum seekers which is around one third of numbers from the same period last year.

In compare with the figures from June there is a decline in number of application when 259 people applied for asylum, per statistics from the UDI.

Of those who came in July majority are coming from Syria (34), Afghanistan (31), Albania (25) and Eritrea (23).

During the first six months there has been 1,943 asylum seekers arrived in Norway while at the same time last year around 6,000 asylum seekers arrived in Norway.

202 of the 2,000 applicants who have come this year, unaccompanied minors, which is about half of this group are from Afghanistan.

While asylum seeker numbers fall there will also be fewer residents on Norwegian asylum centers. At the end of July 21 708 people lived at reception centers.

There will be around 8,000 fewer till the year end. About 2,500 residents have been rejected and have obligation to leave while around 13,500 are waiting for the first respond or an appeal to be processed.
