Avalanche danger several places in Central Norway

The risk of landslides is at the yellow level in Sør-Trøndelag and Møre og Romsdal after mild weather and heavy rainfall.

In Møre og Romsdal, the risk of both landslides and flooding on Friday. Saturday the risk of landslides continues for all municipalities in the county, and in addition, flooding in Molde.

In South Trøndelag, there is a landslide hazard for all municipalities, except Røros on Friday and Saturday, according to “Varsom”, the information service to Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE).

– Avalanche danger will probably increase until Friday afternoon. We are expecting a lot of rainfall and rising temperatures.

When there is a lot of water in the ground from before, this increases the avalanche danger even more, says geologist Gunne Håland  from Vegvesen to NRK news.

Earlier in the week there were several landslides in Central Norway, and on Thursday the residents of a residential building in Snåsa in Nord-Trøndelag were evacuated due to the acute risk of avalanches.

E39 between Kristiansund and Orkanger had reduced accessability due to landslides on Thursday night. Vegvesen advised that just after 04:00 that the road was cleared and open to traffic.
