In total, 4 472 058 passengers travelled through Avinor’s airports in May. This is an increase of 2.4 per cent compared to May 2015. However, aircraft movements decreased by almost 2 per cent.

Domestic passenger traffic increased by 2.6 per cent, with equal growth experienced by international traffic.

Solid growth at Oslo Airport

Among the largest airports, Oslo and Bodø saw the strongest growth, with 5.4 per cent and 5.7 per cent respectively. Trondheim increased its traffics by 2.5 per cent, while Bergen had a marginal decrease of 0.3 per cent. Stavanger continues its passenger reduction – 5.6 per cent down compared to May last year.

New record on Friday 13 May

-The combination of Pentecost weekend and the Norwegian Constitution Day on 17 May led to particularly high numbers of travelers. On Friday 13 May, Avinor passed 200 000 passengers in one single day for the first time ever, says Jasper Spruit, Vice President, Traffic Development in Avinor.

Looking at the most significant markets, traffic to Denmark (10 per cent), Sweden (9 per cent), and Spain (7 per cent) saw the largest increase, while Germany and the UK decreased by 7 per cent and 4 per cent respectively.

Network variations

At other airports of the Avinor network, there are great variations. Røros experienced a formidable traffic growth of 33.8 per cent. On the other hand, offshore-related Florø saw a decline of 21 per cent in its traffic.

-Numerous conference groups in combination with new timetables, the latter to which the market has reacted positively, gave a fantastic traffic growth at Røros in May, comments Gudbrand Rognes, Airport Manager at Røros Airport.
