After 40 years wearing a black uniform, police of the ‘National Emergency Resources’ force will now dress in green. The new uniform is called ‘urban camouflage’.

The new suits are being introduced because the old black uniforms stood out too much in crowds, and were easy to see from a distance, reported the newspaper Aftenposten.

‘The uniforms consist of jeans, jackets and uppers. They will be replacing the overall daily uniform for our national emergency response forces’, said police inspector Reidar Foss of the Police Directorate.

Under the uniform there is ample space for shooting and stabbing protection vests. In addition, they are equipped with specially tailored pockets (that will accommodate work tools).

The fabric is flame retardant, with reinforced kneepads.

The new uniforms will be given given a test period of two years. If they are retained, there are likely to be future efforts for the uniform to be issued to police across the country.
