The staff in Oslo Catholic diocese was asked to shred the minutes of an internal meeting where the membership cheating case was discussed.
In an email dated 9 December 2014 , Eidsvig asked employees to delete electronic versions and shred paper copies of the minutes, the reason given being that it could create “misery” if it fell into the wrong hands, the newspaper Klassekampen writes, who have received information on the contents of the minutes.
At the meeting the Finance director`s role in the matter was commented upon by the bishop.
– Eidsvig wanted the abstract Klassekampen is referring to to be deleted since it describes personnel conflicts in detail and was marked by personal attacks against an employee who was not present, said the acting head of administration of the diocese Lisa Wade.
The reason for the meeting, which took place in early December 2014 was that many of the employees were nervous because The newspaper Dagbladet had just revealed the member cheating case.
The Diocesan former lawyer Eirin Larsen is, according to the minutes, said to have summarized several possible offenses.
The Diocese receives support from municipal and state per member. The bishop and the Chief Financial Office were in February last year charged with serious fraud of 50 million. They deny culpability, and the church denies having broken the law.
