As many as 40 percent of women and 20 percent of men in military service say they have been bullied in the military.
Officers are behind 20 percent of bullying, while 62 percent of the bullying is performed by others, the newspaper Vårt Land writes.
This is revealed in a research report made by the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI) according to Forskning.no.
The main finding of the report of the largest military unit, Brigade North, is that four out of ten women in the military service report having been bullied.
This is three times more than in junior college. 97 percent of the bullying is verbal. The rest is through SMS, social media, aggressive behavior and light physical violence.
23 percent in total of the rank and file stated that they had been bullied during the first nine months of service.
27 percent of the women in the FFI survey report having been sexually harassed in military service. Only 3 percent of the men say the same.
The researcher Sverre Kvalvik FFI were one of the three people who were in charge of the study.
– It is difficult to say whether things have gotten better or worse women have in the Military. Compared to previous studies, we see a slight downward trend in bullying in the military. I don’t get the feeling that bullying and sexual harassment is a growing problem in the military. They are working hard to reduce this, she says.
