Foreign Minister Børge Brende congratulates António Guterres with his attainal of the top job as the new UN Secretary General and believes that he is a good choice.
In a Twitter message Brende writes that Guterres is “the best outcome for the world and the United Nations.” He also calls the Portuguese “an experienced statesman.”
Guterres got no votes against him during a vote behind closed doors in the UN Security Council on Wednesday. The formal vote will be held on Thursday.
Then the Security Council give its recommendation to the UN General Assembly, which formally appoints the new UN Secretary General.
