Foreign Minister Børge Brende is concerned about the increased tension between Russia and Ukraine.
He urges the parties to refrain from statements that might contribute to a worsening crisis that seems to build up in the disputed area which Russia annexed in spring 2014.
– Words and actions that can acute the situation further must be avoided, said Brende as a statement on Saturday.
The tension between countries increased after that the Russians have been allegations of terrorism from Ukrainian saboteurs north in the Crimea but Ukraine denies that fights have taken place.
Brende believes Russia has a particular responsibility to avoid further escalation of the situation.
– Norway stands together with the rest of international community in view of Crimea status under international law. Crimea is and will remain as part of Ukraine. The Russian annexation of the peninsula is a violation of international law, said the Foreign Minister.
Also, NATO, the UN and the United States have expressed deep concern over the increased tensions and call for calm.
