Foreign Minister Brende expresses joy over the election in Iran being conducted in a well-organized and calm manner with great support from voters.

He says that the preliminary results, which shows progress of the reformist and moderate candidates, will make it easier for President Hassan Rouhani to implement reforms.
“This will be very important for President Rouhani’s opportunities to push through necessary economic reforms and fulfill public expectations of economic growth as a result of the nuclear agreement and the easing of the sanctions” he writes.
He points out that there also is a great need for reforms when it comes to women’s rights, freedom of expression and other key human rights.
“If the preliminary results hold, president Rouhani will get a far more cooperative parliament to deal with than what is the case today,” he said.
