Foreign Minister Børge Brende is traveling to Ankara on Friday in order to show solidarity and hold talks with political leaders after the attempted coup in the summer.

On the agenda is a meeting with Turkey Foreign Minister Mevlüt Cavusoglu, who Brende also met in Strasbourg when the European Council held a meeting about the attempted coup on Wednesday of this week.

– What will be important in Ankara, is to send a clear signal that we support the elected government and president.

But we have also added very strong emphasis on ensuring that the judicial process should happen after the attempted coup, they must adhere to the international obligations which they have, says Brende to news agency NTB.

He fears that Turkish authorities must evict a too big net settlement with coup makers.

– I look forward to confirm this entire judicial process takes place in line with Turkey’s international obligations and the European Convention on Human Rights, he said.
