A new laminated timber bridge over the new E6 at Sjoa Gudbrandsdalen collapsed on Wednesday with a timber truck on top.
The bridge made of laminated timber was installed in September last year as a part of the development of the new highway E6 in Gudbrandsdalen. Wednesday afternoon at 14.30 pm the police were alerted of the collapse which happened when a truck drove across the bridge,   the police  in Gudbrandsdalen said. The driver is injured and taken to the hospital.
– This happened at the site where the bridge was being built. The bridge is not open to regular traffic, but used by trucks and other vehicles that are involved in or which will transport equipment or people that plays an important part in the construction work on and the development of E6,  operations leader Ann Karin Sundsgården said.
The driver  was taken to a hospital in Lillehammer. The extent of damage is not known.
According to the local newspaper Gudbrandsdølen Dagningen the wooden construction was fitted in September last year. It is one out of a total of six wooden bridges supplied by Laminated Timber division to the new highway. It is 45 meters long, 5 meters wide and is only intended to serve as a means of access to the farmland and the woods.
