US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter says he is impressed by the Norwegian Long-Term Plan for the Armed Forces, and says Norway can count on the help from the United States in the event of a threat from Russia.
I have read the plan “from cover to cover,” Carter said in an interview with newspaper VG when he was at a defense minister meeting in Norway earlier this month.
He was visiting because of changes in the security environment, changes which include hybrid warfare and cyber threats.
– We have to make plans, allocate resources, and do what it takes to be ready.
Technology and modernization plays an important part in this. Norway has a plan to do all of this, through its long-term plan for defense. It is impressive, he says, adding that Norway, like other NATO countries need to use two percent of their GDP on defense.
