Government’s proposal to change the requirement that refugees must have completed asylum interview before they are allowed to work are sent for consultation.

The proposed amendment was circulated for comment on Thursday with a deadline of September 1st.
The amendment to the Immigration Act involves providing exemptions from the requirement of completion asylum interview before refugees can get a temporary work permit. The exception proposed to apply where there is “a high probability that the applicant will be granted a residence permit.”

The Government does not propose changes to the requirement that there should be no doubt about the applicant’s identity. The requirement that there is no question of rejecting the applicant or promote re-appropriation petition against another country is also remaining as before.
