A child died Friday as a result of salmonella infection at St. Olav’s Hospital in Trondheim,  Dagbladet reports.

– This is a very sad event and we have implemented internal procedures to identify the source of infection as quickly as possible, technical director Runa Heimstad at St. Olav’s Hospital,  says in a press release.
Currently it is not clear whether the source of infection are in the hospital or whether it comes from outside the hospital.
Analyses at the Department of Microbiology shows that the child had salmonella, and there is reason to believe that the cause of death is sepsis.
The hospital has implemented several measures to find the source of infection and to prevent further infection.
– These will include sampling and cleaning the place thoroughly under the procedures of infection control,Heimstad said .
The death and the incident has been reported to the Board of Health.
St. Olav’s Hospital will probably not have any further information about the incident until Monday at the earliest.
