Children stop taking asthma medicine after discovery of doping racket

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation warned that children and adolescents stopped using asthma medication to avoid negative attention caused by doping cases in sport.

‘We see an increasing tendency for children and adolescents to abstain from medication due to their fear of being labeled as cheats’, said Deputy Secretary General of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation, Bo Gleditsch to NRK news.

He fears this becoming rampant.

‘There’s huge negative focus on asthma medicine and sports, and there are no young people who wish to be accused of the “only reason he is good in track, is because he has asthma,” said Gleditsch.

He believes children and young people watch more media debate than parents like to believe, and that the nuances of that debate tend to disappear.
