The Oslo City Council wants to increase the toll to 160 kroner on days of heavy air pollution from the beginning of the winter.

– We hope it will not be necessary to introduce this. But we can no longer have people having to stay indoors because of air pollution,Lan Marie Berg (MDG), councilor for environment and transport, says .

A study shows that such high tolls will reduce car traffic in Oslo by 27 percent and thus the car traffic emissions of NO2.

Last winter, there were four days of heavy air pollution in Oslo. On such days, heavy vehicles  will have to pay 480 kroner in tolls, if the proposal is adopted in both Oslo and Akershus.

NAF think it is a pity that the city government continues to propose emergency measures instead of introducing long-term measures to improve the air. They ask for  shuttle buses and  more commuter parking.
