Both Follo Tunnel and Tåsen tunnel will be closed this summer, in addition  Granfoss Tunnel and Bryn tunnel have been closed for some time. For these reasons Motorists should expect queues in and out of Oslo.

The Eastbound side will be closed on the Tåsen tunnel from Sunday at 10pm until July 19th, while westbound will be closed from 19th July through to the end of the month. There will be a detour over the tunnel via Kaj Munk way and Rolf Wickstrøm way.

– There will be a noticeable increase in traffic there, says Eystein Hansen, Communications for NPRA.

In addition, one side is also closed both in Bryn and Granfoss Tunnels simultaneously.

Delays despite little traffic

Although July is usually the month of the year with the least traffic, calculations by traffic control there will be delayed especially at Ring 3 and between Teisen and Ryen.

– It’s pretty quiet and calm in traffic now, but there are some delays between Teisen and Ryen via Bryn tunnel. Many also use ring 3 via Tåsen tunnel, so there is some traffic there as well, said traffic operator Jeanette Andersen from NPRA.

Last year there was about 20 percent less traffic through Tåsen in July than the rest of the year, according to traffic data.

Fearing line at E6

Follo Tunnel near Vestby in Akershus will be partially closed from July 11th.

– Those who have to drive on the E6 in summer must prepare for traffic jams, especially during rush hour. They should allow extra time, said project manager Thomas Kallenberg.

The work in Oslo and Akershus is part of a comprehensive national tunnel rehabilitation. In all, 200 tunnels throughout the country will be improved between 2015 and 2019. New emergency exits, upgrading of technical equipment and road improvement is among what will be done.
