In the first weekend of Easter the danger of avalanche through much of northern Norway and in the northly part of western Norway is at level 3 – considerable. At the same time people are praised for being more cautious when they travel in the mountains.
In December  two people lost their lives in avalanches in Longyearbyen. This is considered an urban landslide and does not count in the summary of statistics for outdoor activities, according to Norwegian People’s Aid.
– The fact that no one has died while being on tour in the mountains in Norway in winter is certainly encouraging for us who are doing preventive work in this field. Now we hope that the numbers will stay that way through Easter,  Vegard Lindbæk leader of the avalanche teams in Norwegian People’s Aid Central Troms.
The last winter without deaths in avalanches related to outdoor activities was the winter of 1993. That year one person died in a landslide in a settled area.
