It was but a brief moment within the spotlight for 9 year old Zsa Zsa, a dog recently voted as the world’s ugliest. The English bulldog from Missouri, USA passed away Tuesday, July 10th.

Zsa Zsa’s owner Megan Brainard of Missouri gave comment to various news agencies of her special dog and of its passing, saying; “I’m still in shock. I was still trying to realize that she’d won the world competition and was famous.”

PEACEFUL PASSING
Ms. Brainard reports that Zsa Zsa died in her sleep Tuesday. The ‘World’s Ugliest Dog’ was staying with Brainard’s family and the dog was discovered dead in its sleep Tuesday morning.

Zsa Zsa was remarkably ugly, with a bright pink protruding tongue & seriously crooked teeth. She won the annual ‘Ugly’ contest June 23 in California, USA, taking first place & $1,500.00 USD (NOK 12k).

PUPPY-MILL RESCUE
Zsa Zsa (named by her owner after the famous Gabor sister), was rescued after toiling for five years as a puppy-mill dog by the nonprofit ‘Underdog Rescue’.

The breed of English bulldog is known for its personality, but the breed is also highly controversial because of its appearance and health problems.

Due to the breed’s traditionally narrow pelvis, a large proportion of the English bulldog puppies must be delivered or birthed through cesarean section. The breed’s extreme under-bite leads to both breathing & dental problems.

While seemingly mean-spirited in name, the ‘Ugly Dog’ contest promotes the advocacy and adoption for all dogs, regardless of how ugly they may be.

“This world-renowned event celebrates the imperfections that make all dogs special and unique,” states the contest website.
