Equality has been a decisive element in Norway’s development from poverty to prosperity, according to Prime Minister Erna Solberg (H).

Solberg participated on Tuesday at the European Development Days in Brussels, where she spoke about women’s rights and gender equality.

– There is a space reserved  on history’s  scrap heap  for discrimination against women and girls. Discrimination belongs there together with racism and slavery, “said Solberg.

According to her, there are important lessons from Norway’s development  from poverty to prosperity.

– Gender equality has been a crucial element in this progress. Among the most important factors in Norway’s economic development is childcare for a reasonable price and generous maternity leave policies. These measures have made it possible for both mothers and fathers to work, “said Solberg.

Welfare costs, but that has proven to be profitable investments, she claimed.
