UN special envoy to Cyprus, Espen Barth Eide, met Monday the parties to talk about the resumption of peace talks.

– We are working to find out how we can again get to where we were in negotiations, said Eide to reporters after meeting the leader of the Greek Cypriots, President Nicos Anastasiades.

– I try to facilitate this, but cannot make this decision without leaders, said Eide. The former defense and foreign minister stressed that he cannot see any insurmountable challenges in the conflict.

UN General Secretary Ban Ki-moon has previously warned Anastasiades and his Turkish Cypriot counterpart Mustafa Akinci, against loosing opportunity for “historic chance for peace”.
