36 people drowned in the country during the first five months. This is as many as in the same period last year.

– Early May was cold with little swimming activity. It has picked up, and now we have three months ahead of us with a lot of activity at sea and water. Show respect for the water, weather and local conditions, says Ivar Christiansen from Norwegian People’s Aid.

In May, eight people died in drownings, all were men. Four of the accidents were about falls in water or river, three were typical bathing accidents, while one drowned after falling out of the boat he was in.

So far this year, 36 people drowned nationwide. County statistics show that Hordaland tops the statistics with six drowned.
