Prime Minister Erna Solberg (H) will head her first Stavanger’s Gay Pride Parade in September. She will also hold the opening speech.

According to Rogaland’s newspaper, Solberg announced the visit in a video greeting to the Stavanger Festival at Skeivå.

“That’s the prime minister is making the trip, we are pleasantly surprised. It is amazing that she is coming here to Stavanger to celebrate love, freedom and diversity that our festival represents,” says Daniel B. Rayner, festival director.

In the video, Solberg says she is looking forward to taking part in the celebration.

“Norway has come a long way in this. But in many other countries they have not come so far. In many other countries, it’s still hard to be allowed to be who you are and love who you want to love. It is an important value we must take care of in our society. That’s why I’m glad you’re celebrating it, and I’m looking forward to celebrating with you,” said the prime minister.

The festival will be held from 5th to 9th September, and the parade will be held on the opening day.
